Own a piece of History! Constructed by Tucker Marine, Inc. in 1987, the PY Fubbs is the only true functional sidewheel cruiser plying the Chesapeake. Immensely efficient and startlingly maneuverable, this 35' aluminum riverboat truly is a one-of-a-kind.
Tucker Inc. has, for decades, been a very well-regarded builder of aluminum and steel boats for commercial and recreational uses since the 1950s. Their barges, houseboats, ferries, tow boats and paddlewheel boats could be seen up and down the inland rivers around PA and Ohio for generations.
Built in 1987, in Cincinnati by Tucker Marine, originally commissioned for James Geier.
She was designed to be the fastest paddlewheeler on the Western Rivers and has never lost a race. The PY Fubbs has been plying the Chesapeake for the last 24 years.
She is a superb boat for family river cruises. sight-seeing, and exhibitions, such as waterfront festivals and lights parades. She is shallow draft, amazingly maneuverable, very stable under way, and lots of fun.
She is currently stored upon a lift at the owners' home. Showings by appointment.
Mechanicals
The boat's propulsion is via two large, (7'.4") paddlewheels each turning 9 Feathering Buckets. They are each independently spun in forward or reverse by a pair of hydraulic motors. The drives are powered by a pair of hydraulic pumps (rebuilt in 2012) which are pushed by a single Cummins 6BT 5.9L Turbo engine (replaced in 2012) making 180 hp at 2500 RPM.
The engine is cooled by a closed system. The coolant is cooled by a system of keel-coolers. There are no raw water intakes going through-hull.
The engine and pumps are cooled via a closed cooling system that runs the coolant and hydraulic fluid through keel-mounted coolers. There are no sea water intakes through the hull.
