Since 2012, LATITUDE has explored the Belize Keys, the Banco Chinchorro Bank (UNESCO site) off the Yucatan and the Bay Islands of Honduras.  Home base is a covered boat house in the freshwater of Rio Dulce (Sweet River), Guatemala. The entire river is a storm haven protected by a mountain range guarding the entrance.

Additionally, the delta area offers interesting cruising and sites.  There’s even an intact Spanish Fort, Castillo de San Felipe de Lara, built in 1644.
