Construction

 

Omega is a traditionally built Maine boat using 1 1/4" cedar planking over 2" x 3" steam-bent oak frames fastened with bronze screws. Hull framework is oak. Decks are marine plywood fiberglassed and gelcoated. Cabin and shelter tops are also plywood, fiberglassed and gelcoated with the cabintop interior coated with Soundown. The cabin and shelter sides are marine plywood outside, Formica inside.  Custom aluminum opening windows in the cabin and wheelhouse. The toe rails and guards are PVC with stainless trim and hardware. The interior trim is varnished cherry.


Engine

1991 Caterpillar 3208, 320 HP, diesel 4-cycle turbo charged inter-cooled engine, Serial No. D1Z 8398.  FWC heat exchanger. Kobelt controls. Borg Warner 506 transmission, 2.5:1, stainless steel 2" shaft swinging a 30 D x 22 P x 4-blade LH bronze propeller. Crow power steering with stainless steel destroyer-style wheel.  Lenco electric trim tabs, traditional wooden rudder, custom propeller cage.

Accommodations

Omega sleeps six in three private areas. Aft of the anchor locker forward are the vee berths, hanging locker and drawers in a separate stateroom. Aft to port is a built-in cushioned settee/single berth.  To starboard is a large enclosed head with a separate shower, stainless steel sink, and Raritan electric toilet with Y valve and holding tank. Aft of the head are two bunk berths, hanging locker, and drawers in a private cabin. All berths are 6'6" long with custom 4" thick upholstered cushions.  In the aft cabin to port is a full U-shaped galley with a 4-burner propane gas stove with oven, dual stainless steel sinks with pressure hot and cold water, Norcold refrigerator and freezer that is 12v and 110v, a microwave oven and many lockers and drawers. Six opening side windows and four cabintop hatches.

Up three steps to the wheelhouse with helm to starboard and a cabinet aft for the heater and storage. Custom cushioned captain and port seats with settee to port that converts into a single berth. Opening windshield windows and sliding side and aft windows for fresh air.  The entire cabin and wheelhouse interior is white with varnished cherry trim. 6'6" headroom throughout.  A very well designed and spacious interior for cruising with privacy.

Next, the 46" wide aft door leads to the 12' x 12' cockpit with two Freeman floor hatches and two lockers for propane tanks and gear. The transom door leads to the custom fiberglass swim platform with a stainless steel boarding ladder. Side decks lead to the foredeck with shelter and cabin top handrails and a stainless steel bow pulpit and anchor mount.
